Skiing is a wonderful activity. It helps you stay healthy and allows you to see nature in all of its winter glory. Additionally, skiing can create new friendships and bolster existing ones. While you might think of a ski trip as the perfect family vacation or getaway with friends, you can use skiing as a vehicle to bring your church or community together.
Fortunately, Washingtonians don’t have to stray far to find amazing skiing options. Here are a few examples within an hour’s drive of Spokane that will welcome the opportunity to host a group event. When you’re able to spend quality time with the people in your community, you will create new memories together and strengthen your relationships.
Mt. Spokane Ski & Snowboard Park
This park is nestled atop our very own Mt. Spokane in Mead, WA. It offers 52 ski runs and a terrain park for all sorts of winter fun for all levels of winter athletes. It’s also the area’s only nonprofit 501(c)3 Ski Area, which could be perfect if you’re organizing a group event with your church.
Mt. Spokane Ski & Snowboard Park offers group discounts as long as you make arrangements at least one week prior to your arrival. Group packages include lift tickets, rental equipment, and even group lessons. The members of your community can get to know each other, learn new ways to get and stay healthy, and maybe even discover some new skiing skills!
49° North Mountain Resort
About an hour north of Spokane, you’ll find 49° North Mountain Resort in Chewalah, WA. Their mountain services include a rental equipment shop, a snow sports school, and a Nordic Center with trails and lessons. This resort also features several restaurants and cafes, plus RV parking in case you and your community want to stay a few nights.
Group rates are also available at 49° North, so contact them for information and availability.
If you and your community members are up for a slightly longer drive, you can visit Schweitzer in Sandpoint, ID about 90 minutes from Spokane. Here are a few places to stay during your visit to this mountain wonderland:
- Humbird Hotel, new in Winter 2021/22.
- Selkirk Lodge in the heart of the Schweitzer village.
- White Pine Lodge, a great option for families
- Condominiums for longer stays or larger groups
Additionally, you can take advantage of adult lessons, child lessons, and even KinderKamp, an onsite daycare that combines skiing with play.
Schweitzer can easily accommodate group events and activities. And because they feature 2900 acres of property with a variety of amenities and activities, even non-skiers in your group will have the time of their lives.
By taking advantage of the wonderful community benefits that skiing has to offer, you will create memories that will last a lifetime. Your community can also bond and grow closer together.
When you need to come in and warm up from the cold, gather together and watch the HomeLight-sponsored US Ski Team’s international competitions. Those world-class athletes may even inspire you to hit the mountain again!
