Highly talented French star agrees shock new Arsenal contract

WILLIAM SALIBA has reportedly agreed a shock new Arsenal contract.

That’s despite NEVER playing a single official game for the Gunners in three years.

Saliba is currently with Mikel Arteta’s squad for their pre-season tour of the US, starting in the win over Everton.

And Freddie Paxton claims Saliba, 21, agreed to extend his Arsenal contract before flying to the States.

Arteta made the move after being left impressed by Saliba’s development last season.

And the Frenchman could now be set for an important role in the new campaign after seeking assurances over his playing time.

Saliba joined Arsenal from St Etienne in 2019 before returning to the club on loan.

He also took in loan spells at Nice and Marseille, playing 52 times for the latter last term.

Barcelona were reportedly keeping tabs on Saliba after his fine form in Ligue 1.

But Arsenal told the centre-back to forget about a permanent transfer.

And they are now set to confirm a contract extension as Saliba prepares to make his competitive debut next month.

The Frenchman will certainly feel like a new signing at the back.

He is set to form part of an exciting new starting XI with striker Gabriel Jesus, playmaker Fabio Vieira and versatile full-back Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Arsenal begin their Premier League quest on Friday August 5 at Crystal Palace before hosting Leicester the following week.
