Rawlings launched an NFT collection last month on OpenSea, which ties a nonfungible token (NFT) to a physical baseball glove. If you want some more info on NFT’s, see here for an explainer.
From the press release: “These ultra-rare, limited-edition Rawlings gloves were designed and manufactured exclusively for the ‘PRIMUS NFT’ project, never to be reproduced. By purchasing one of the NFTs, the buyer will be able to exchange their NFT for their physical glove, and they’ll also gain access to exclusive future offerings from Rawlings.”
Each authentic, high-performance glove is unique and comes with an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity proving that your physical glove is authentic and from the official PRIMUS NFT collection.
It also features the Rawlings NFT stamp and edition number imprinted on it. This links the glove back to its NFT and makes each glove one-of-a-kind. For example, if your NFT is PRIMUS Pro #22, you will receive a glove with 22/300 stamped onto the thumb side of the glove.
Its important to note that a purchase enables you to exchange the NFT for the physical glove–you can’t have both. While this might seem a little confusing, it will help Rawlings better understand the value of each, as this is the first time NFTs have ever been tied to physical gloves. There’s also a Discord server that Rawlings created for the PRIMUS project.
There are 461 NFTs in total ranging from ~$500 – $1500 depending on rarity.
-Tier 1: “PRIMUS Pro” numbered to 300
-Tier 2: “PRIMUS Gold” numbered to 150
-Tier 3: “PRIMUS Platinum” numbered to 10
-Tier 4: “PRIMUS THE LINDOR 1/1” 1 OF 1, GAME USED
According to Rawlings Vice President of Digital Marketing, Dylan Kavanagh, Rawlings “built the project off of the idea that baseball gloves are already very popular in the world of collectors and NFTs can provide authentication and scarcity to that market.”
PRIMUS LINDOR 1 OF 1 UP FOR AUCTION THRU 10/12
The most exclusive glove NFT on offer is this 1 of 1 glove that Francisco Lindor designed and wore vs. the Yankees on July 27, 2022. You can see the physical glove above, signed and worn. All proceeds from the auction go to Francisco Lindor’s charity: The Francisco Lindor Scholarship Fund.
While the previously mentioned NFT’s (Pro, Gold, and Platinum tiers) must be EXCHANGED for the physical glove, this special game worn 1-of-1 will be INCLUDED along with the NFT, and they’re currently being auctioned off for charity AND AUCTION WILL END OCTOBER 12. The 1 of 1 “package” will also include 2 tickets (and all-expense paid trip) to the Rawlings Gold Glove Awards this year at the Plaza Hotel in NYC, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for sure.
